Kabul–Thousands of books were thrown in river and western media, particularly the US, as usual focusing military news, didn’t give proper coverage to the untold stories of Afghanistan. Leaked last week by BBC, thousands of books about Hazara history and Shiite faith were thrown in river under the directions of Ministry of Information and Culture.
Though Fox News.com have the story by AP, but other notable US media outlets didn’t even talk of the story. Such media outlets, always speaking of freedom of expression and human rights, are only interested in the military death news from Afghanistan. They have always been giving less coverage to the untold stories of Afghanistan such as the books thrown in river by the Governor of Nimrooz.
Guardian reported among thousands books, 2600 were on Hazara history and 600 included books of Shiite faith. These books were brought from Iran by a citizen of Afghanistan, who owns a publishing house in Iran. The ignorant and fascist Minister of Information and Culture still backs the shameless act that voilates the basic human right to knowledge. Its surprising that international media, organizations of freedom of expression and human rights did’t notice such a non-democratic and anti-civilization act.
