A large number of local people cheered the participants and enjoyed the race, which started from Airport Road, and continued along different roads until the Buddha statues near Bamyan University.
Participants from all walks of life and ages ran for 7 Km in the presence of an audience of about 15,000 people. The participants wore t-shirts, caps and towels provided by the sponsor, Afghan Wireless Communication Company. Participants from far-flung villages and other cities with best performance were awarded cash prizes of different amounts totaling, 85,000 Afg. Ten bicycles were also awarded to the top ten performers.
The audience witnessed a real thrill of joy. They were refreshed with water stalls and biscuits. The event was telecast on Ariana TV and Radio. The race, whose motto is “Say No To Drugs,” aims to raise awareness about the growing drug addiction among the youth in Afghanistan. The race has been held in various other provinces of Afghanistan, including Herat, Mazar, Kandahar and Kabul, before coming to Bamiyan.
